Changes in the structure of electricity consumption by consumers in specific voivodships in the years 2001-2015

Purpose: The aim of this article is to assess the size of electricity consumption in Poland with particular emphasis on energy consumers, that is economic sectors, and to evaluate process of change in the structure of electricity consumption by consumers in the years 2001-2015 in specific voivodships.. Design/methodology/approach: critically analysis of the literature. Findings: Electricity consumption is one of the most important characteristics that define economy, due to the lack of an alternative to human need for electric power. The processes of globalization, knowledge-based economy, and, above all, technological advances made functioning of economy without access to electricity impossible.
Originality/value: As socio-economic development at the expense of the environment is hard to slow down, persuading to use energy sensibly and preventing its waste are now the key demands of energy politics in most countries of the world. The process of observing trends in energy consumption in various economy sectors and collecting information on processes of energy management are of particular importance.
